Allstad Farm Field Day: Making Hayfields Work Again

Join us for a practical field day at Allstad Farm focused on improving hayfield productivity through effective water management.

This hands-on workshop will explore hay land management with a focus on wet areas and tile drainage, including its benefits, challenges, best management practices, and applicable state and federal regulations. Hear directly from experienced farmers, researchers, drainage professionals, and NRCS staff while touring a working farm and discussing real-world solutions.

Field Presenters:

  • Chad Allaire, Grass & Beef Farmer & Host on farm experiences
  • Joshua Faulkner, Research Associate Professor & UVM Extension Center for Sustainable Agriculture Faculty Fellow on his research related to tile drainage.
  • Chad Machia, Machia & Sons Drainage, LLC on his work installing tile drainage including costs
  • Jim Eikenberry, NRCS Wetlands Specialist on regulations surrounding tile drainage

Whether you're managing existing drainage, considering future improvements, or simply looking to improve your hayfields, you'll leave with practical knowledge you can apply on your own operation.
