SUMMARY

Nashua Soup Kitchen and Shelter is a dynamic non-profit dedicated to feeding the hungry, sheltering the homeless and supporting the self-sufficiency of the most vulnerable in our community. Following a new strategic plan, NSKS is building an integrated, story-driven fundraising team. 

 

We are looking for a Development Manager who is a true "data-driven storyteller"— equally comfortable analyzing program metrics as they are crafting narratives that inspire giving. In this role, you will bridge the gap between numbers and humanity. This is a full-time exempt position on-site in Nashua, NH.  

 

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS 

 

Key Responsibilities: 

  • Grant & Proposal Management: Write compelling grant proposals, letters of inquiry (LOIs), and reports for private foundations, corporate giving programs, and government entities, weaving impact-driven storytelling into every narrative. 
  • Grant Calendar & Reporting: Build, maintain, and own a comprehensive grant calendar. Deliver monthly status and award reports to organizational leadership and the Board of Directors. Manage evaluation processes to ensure program metrics align with grant requirements. 
  • Prospecting & Pipeline Growth: Proactively research, identify, and qualify new private foundation, corporate grant, and donor prospects to expand and diversify the funding pipeline and support strategic growth. 
  • Grant Stewardship: Partner with the development team to design and execute creative stewardship touchpoints, ensuring grantors receive timely impact updates, specialized reporting, and meaningful recognition that deepens their connection to the mission. 
  • CRM Strategy & Analytics: Serve as the high-level administrator for the fundraising CRM. Partner with the Director of Development to establish data business rules, integrity standards, and best practices. Generate advanced fundraising reports and dashboards to inform donor cultivation and stewardship strategies. 
  • Cross-Training & Departmental Support: Maintain a thorough, working knowledge of basic data entry, donor acknowledgement workflows, and the board stewardship/handwritten note pipeline. Provide seamless coverage for the Coordinator during high-volume periods or absences to ensure uninterrupted donor care. 
  • Collaborative Writing & Digital Support: Utilize strong, versatile writing skills to occasionally assist with external communications, digital content, or storytelling initiatives in partnership with the Communications Manager.

  • Maintain donor confidentiality. 
  • Consistently meet deadlines and maintain accurate constituent records. 
  • Assist in maintaining NSKS’s reputation for excellence in the community and work to ensure positive relations between donors and NSKS. Understand, believe, and advocate for the mission of the NSKS. 

 

OTHER DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Adhere to agency policies, procedures, and a professional code of ethics. 
  • Participate in regular staff meetings, staff training programs, supervisory sessions, and accept responsibility for aiding in developing positive team relationships. 
  • Accurately track and report hours worked in a timely fashion using agency provided tools. 
  • Perform other related duties as assigned by immediate supervisor and/or other management as required. 

 

EDUCATION , SKILLS & EXPERIENCE 

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in communications, English, Nonprofit Management, or a related field (or equivalent experience). 
  • Core Experience: 3–5 years of successful grant writing and grant management experience in a nonprofit setting. 
  • Prospecting & Stewardship: Proven experience utilizing grant databases (such as Foundation Directory Online) to identify new prospects, alongside a solid understanding of creative donor stewardship practices. 
  • CRM Savvy: Proven experience managing a nonprofit CRM beyond simple data entry—must understand database logic, segmentation, and reporting functions. Experience with Raiser's Edge is a strong plus. 
  • Financial Coordination: Familiarity with basic programmatic budgets and comfort collaborating with finance teams to ensure grant compliance and accurate reporting. 
  • Writing & Communication: Exceptional written communication skills with the ability to pivot effortlessly between technical, data-driven grant language and engaging, donor-centric storytelling. 
  • Creative Tools: Familiarity with Canva, social media platforms, or digital content creation tools is a strong plus. 
  • Project Management: Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage strict, overlapping deadlines.
