New England Young Fishermen's Alliance's Commercial Fishing Greenhorn Apprenticeship
The New England Young Fishermen’s Alliance (NEYFA) is offering its first-ever Greenhorn Apprenticeship Training. This is a hands-on, 5-week program for individuals (ages 18 - 45) ready to launch their careers as deckhands or sternmen on local commercial fishing vessels.
Whether you’re drawn to lobstering, scalloping, groundfishing, tuna fishing, or want to gain real experience working on the water, this training will equip you with the skills and confidence to find employment in the industry.
Throughout the program, you’ll learn directly from experienced fishermen as your trainers, covering everything from gear types, navigation basics, safety procedures, seamanship, and gear setup to the essential money management and wellness skills that will help you stay balanced on and off the boat.
