Recording! Federal Legislation, Local Impact: What’s Next for SNAP in NH
On October 3, the NH Food Alliance held its October Network Café, part of their 2025-2026 Network Café Series. We were joined by Laura Milliken, Executive Director of NH Hunger Solutions, and Amy Hollar, State Extension Specialist for UNH Extension’s Health & Well-Being team, so they could break down the recently passed One Big Beautiful Bill and share how both of their organizations are working to minimize the negative impacts of the legislation.
Laura shared how everyone can get involved in their advocacy and coalition building work to lessen the burden those receiving SNAP benefits will feel and soften the impact changes to benefits and program administration will have on New Hampshire’s economy and state budget at large. Amy provided insights on the cuts to the SNAP-ED program and how they plan to mitigate the effect on nutrition education for children and families across the Granite State.
Following, the NHFA team facilitated a discussion about how the SNAP changes and cuts will trickle down to affect our agricultural producers and food system community and asked participants to share about strategies other organizations are taking to ensure everyone has access to local food and our food system community continues to thrive.
