"$112k Awarded in Dairy Agritourism Grants in the Northeast Region"
Montpelier, VT – The Northeast Dairy Business Innovation Center (NE-DBIC) announces grant awards totaling $112,857 through the Multi-Business Agritourism Grant program. Six dairy farmers, processors, and organizations in Maine, New York, Pennsylvania, and Vermont will launch innovative agritourism projects through the NE-DBIC’s first competitive grant round. The projects funded are designed to raise awareness, understanding, and consumption of Northeast produced dairy products through agritourism activities that impact multiple dairy businesses. Projects awarded in New Hampshire include:
Britton Farm ($100,000) to install a Trans Iowa Swing Ten Parlor, which
will decrease labor costs, improve worker conditions and safety, and increase cow comfort and milk quality.
LeClair Acres Farm ($34,883) to improve their calf and heifer management from birth to calving in order to raise better quality replacement heifers by installing a Milk Taxi, monitoring tags for calves and heifers, and upgrading headlocks in the calf barn for more efficient and safe treatment and health monitoring.
Pine Lane Farm ($97,600) to purchase a silage defacer and Haybuster H1000 for grinding haylage, which will improve forage quality and TMR uniformity, modernizing their feed management system.
