New Hampshire DHHS Highlights Programs Connecting Families and Older Adults to Fresh, Local Produce During National Farmers Market Week

CONCORD, NH – In recognition of National Farmers Market Week from August 2-8, the New Hampshire Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS) celebrates programs that help eligible families and older adults access fresh, locally grown fruits and vegetables while supporting New Hampshire farmers and strengthening the state's local food system.

Through the New Hampshire Women, Infants & Children Nutrition Program (WIC), the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP), and the Commodity Supplemental Food Program (CSFP), DHHS programs actively support increased access to healthy, locally grown foods for eligible New Hampshire residents.

"National Farmers Market Week is a great chance to recognize the important role our state’s farmers play in supporting the health of New Hampshire families and communities," said Lori Weaver, Commissioner of the New Hampshire DHHS. "The availability of fresh, nutritious food is critical to the health of Granite Staters, and we’re grateful to New Hampshire farms and farmers who support our shared goal to make healthy foods more accessible to everyone."

DHHS partners with the New Hampshire Food Bank to administer Granite State Market Match, which provides a dollar-for-dollar match on SNAP purchases of fresh produce at participating farmers markets, as well as Double Up Food Bucks, which offers a 50 percent discount on fresh fruits and vegetables at participating retailers and farm stands.

In 2025, SNAP Incentive Programs helped more than 4,000 New Hampshire households purchase over one million pounds of New Hampshire-grown produce at 53 participating locations statewide.

In addition, the WIC Farmers' Market Nutrition Program (FMNP) provides eligible WIC participants with seasonal benefits to purchase fresh fruits, vegetables, and herbs from participating New Hampshire farmers. This year, eligible participants in Hillsborough and Rockingham counties may receive $30 in FMNP benefits to support purchase of fresh produce. In 2026, 12 farmers markets are participating in the FMNP giving Granite State families more chances to purchase fresh foods from local farms.

The CSFP Senior Farmers’ Market Nutrition Program also provides eligible adults - 60 years and older participating in the CSFP - with fruits and vegetables from New Hampshire farmers during July and August. Bags or boxes of fresh produce are distributed at more than 70 CSFP clinic locations throughout the state to increase healthy food options available to program participants.
