"CONCORD — State legislation is being proposed that would provide emergency assistance to farmers who lost crops during severe weather this growing season, N.H. Agriculture Commissioner Shawn Jasper said Wednesday.
Speaking to the N.H. Executive Council at its meeting in Concord, Jasper said initial estimates show that New Hampshire farmers suffered a $15 million loss, a figure he said would be updated when post-harvest surveys are completed next month.
State Sen. Dan Innis, R-Bradford, has sponsored a request for legislation to be drawn up to provide “emergency crop relief,” but no written details are available yet on the proposal, and he didn’t immediately return calls for comment."
