The American Seafood Harvesters Marketing Practices Survey represents the first-ever national assessment of domestic seafood marketing practices. From the School of Marine Sciences at the University of Maine, this survey will bring greater attention to the value of the seafood sector in the US by evaluating the different market channels that seafood harvesters use to deliver seafood to consumers in the US as well as the number of participants, types of products, and total economic contribution of these activities. While the USDA has been collecting similar data from the farming sector for decades and these data have been critical to informing decision makers' investments in the agricultural sector, no information like this exists for the seafood sector.
