Photographer

Katie Goodall is a Newbury, MA-based photographer who tells stories with photos. From family rambles and school portraits to behind-the-scenes farm and artisan profiles, Katie's photos capture life, mostly unscripted. With a background in research and teaching agroecology and environmental studies, Katie uses her photography to call attention to farmers and artisans whose work is informed by ecological thinking and strengthens local communities.

Katie is a part of a creative team called Ink + Light Creative that offers block-print graphic design and documentary photography for farms, artisans, and beyond.

In 2009, somewhere in the Green Mountains of Vermont, an early-model Prius did its best with the highway's sharp inclines. Inside the vehicle were two women who would become fast friends as they traveled the state interviewing landowners about conservation. Grad students Sarah and Katie found they shared a passion for balancing environmental protection and the working landscape, as well as the artistic interpretations of these spaces.

Four children, nine jobs, six moves, and fifteen gardens later, Katie and Sarah found themselves each becoming skilled artisans in their respective crafts. Sarah, a woodcut printmaker. Katie, a photographer. Ink. Light. After many late-night conversations, they realized their own pursuits shared many of the same goals: celebrating farmers and makers, helping small businesses thrive, and emphasizing collaboration over competition. And suddenly they were back in that Prius, sharing their dreams all over again and remembering what drew them together as friends so many years ago.

As longtime friends running our own creative businesses, we see immense potential in the synergy created when ink meets light.
