Tara Westenhiser is a dedicated public health professional with a robust background in food systems and a strong commitment to advancing nutrition security in New Hampshire. Before joining the state in 2023, she gained valuable experience working on farms, as a graduate research assistant, and working at two different food banks.  In her current role within the Bureau of Family Health and Nutrition at the NH Division of Public Health, Tara leads strategic planning and fosters cross-sector collaboration to enhance food and nutrition programs statewide.  Her work involves close coordination with the Chronic Disease section to support integrated, health-focused food access initiatives.  Tara is focused on increasing awareness and participation in federal nutrition programs, supporting food access coalitions, and ensuring equitable access to healthy, affordable, and culturally appropriate foods for all NH residents.  As a former food banker, Tara brings deep expertise and passion to her work.  She serves as a key member of the NH Food Access Coalition and facilitates a statewide interagency food security workgroup, which includes staff from DPH, the Department, and other state agencies.  A recent transplant to New Hampshire, Tara enjoys spending time in her garden, kayaking, and exploring all NH has to offer.  She is excited to continue contributing to the advancement of the New Hampshire Food and Ag Strategic Plan.
