Grant Overview: The Food Policy Catalyst is an initiative of Center for Science in the Public Interest (CSPI) and affiliate CSPI Action Fund aimed at exploring federal, state, and local food and nutrition policies and campaigns that improve public health and provide innovative models that can be replicated and scaled. CSPI is currently accepting proposals for three types of subgrants:

Powerbuilding: Aimed at supporting participation in an 8-month cohort that seeks to strengthen the power of people experiencing the greatest inequities and build the capacity of organizations to address unique food system challenges in their communities.

State & Local Policy: Aimed at pursuing policy campaigns aligned with the following priority areas: the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP), child nutrition programs, state-level taxes on sweetened beverages, values-aligned food procurement in public institutions, and food and beverage labeling and marketing.

Industry Accountability: Aimed at campaigns to hold corporations responsible for the negative health impacts of their food and beverage products and marketing tactics.

Summary: Center for Science in the Public Interest (CSPI) advocates for evidence-based and community-informed policies on nutrition, food safety and health; holds government agencies and corporations to account; and empowers consumers with independent, unbiased information to live healthier lives. In stewarding philanthropic investments received by CSPI and CSPI Action Fund, the Food Policy Catalyst initiative seeks and supports partnerships with organizations and advocates at the local and state levels to facilitate changes to improve the food environment. In addition to providing subgrants through the Food Policy Catalyst, CSPI and CSPI Action Fund are committed to building the capacity of partner organizations to address unique food system issues in their communities.
